The Sunshine Blogger Award – 3rd & 4th Nomination (Together)

Sunshine Blogger Award Logo.png

What’s going on, guys? Recently, I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award by two lovely ladies on WordPress.  Miss Magalie and Miss Lisa are both just wonderful and all out amazing bloggers and I am very humbled and honored to have been included in their list of nominees for this award. Thank you, Magalie and Lisa, so much for this lovely honor.  I truly do appreciate it! Because I was nominated twice for this award around the same time, I will answer half of Magalie’s questions and half of Lisa’s questions.

You guys can check out Magalie’s wonderful posts on her blog Monaminga

You can also check out Lisa’s amazing posts on her blog All About Life

The Rules:

1. Thank the blogger/s who nominated you.

2. Use the “Sunshine Blogger Award” logo on your post and list the rules.

3. Answer the 11 questions the selector asks of you.

4. Nominate 11 bloggers you want to give the award to.

5. Ask the bloggers 11 questions of your own.

image

Magalie’s Questions:

1.  What’s your favorite place in the house and why?

– I actually have 2 favorite rooms: My bedroom and the room I use as my recording studio.  I love my bedroom, because it’s beach themed and makes me feel as if I have a home by the ocean. I go there to chill a lot and sometimes write.  I put on my ocean sounds and let the waves take the stress away.  I love my recording studio because that’s where I jam and let the musical creativity flow. I write in there, too, and get all intimate with the faders and knobs.

2.  Do you have a pet?  What is it?  If not, why?

– I used to have a pet cat named Meatball.  She was a beautiful black and white tuxedo cat and very, very smart… in fact, maybe too smart. I got her during a time when I was recovering from surgeries and she was my therapy, as well as great company.

3.  Where do you see yourself in ten years?

– I honestly don’t know.  I just hope that wherever the road takes me, it takes me in a direction that leads to happiness.

4.  Tell us a joke.

– Oh gosh… okay… but you asked for it!
“Why did the tomato blush? Because it saw the salad… dressing.”
(please direct your tomatoes at the creator of this joke and not me. I’m just the messenger!)

5.  What’s the best advice you’ve been given?  Who gave it to you?

–  The best way to shut a bully up is to speak the truth about them.  They can lash insults, but they can never handle the truth about themselves, because it hurts.  My mom and dad taught me that when I was a kid being bullied in school and man were they right.

Lisa’s Questions:

1.  What’s your favorite memory from childhood?

– Waking up in the middle of the night and catching my mom trying to sneak money underneath my pillow, while trying to get my tooth.  She bumped her leg against the nightstand by my bed, because she couldn’t see in the dark. I looked at her and she froze and looked at me. Neither one of us said a thing, but I knew she was embarrassed, so I simply played stupid, turned over and pretended to go to sleep. Needless to say… I found out who the Tooth Fairy was.

2.  If it was perfectly acceptable to walk around naked would you?

–  Wait… you mean it ISN’T acceptable? Oh boy… (goes and grabs my clothes) 😳

3.  There is a fork in the road – one way leads to a certain future where contentment is guaranteed and the other to uncertainty with the possibility of both ecstasy and agony; which path would you choose?

–  The path of uncertainty with the possibility of ecstasy and agony.  I’m not a fan of mundane routines.  I like to spice things up when I can, so not knowing what to expect in my life keeps me on my toes. As for ecstasy and agony, I can’t appreciate pleasure without experiencing pain. Path to contentment is nice, but I’d rather be balanced.  So give me pleasure and pain.

4.  Days on the beach or nights by a log fire, which would you choose?

– Days on the beach… HANDS DOWN!

5.  If you could be guaranteed to feel no fear, what would you do that you haven’t done up until now?

–  Probably audition for The Voice or some show like that.  People would always tell me to audition for American Idol when I was younger, but I was way too afraid to do it.  That fear of failure or not being good enough always got the best of me. But if I didn’t have those fears, I probably would share my love of music and singing with the world more openly.

6.  If you had the choice between giving 100 Christmas gifts and receiving nothing or receiving 100 and giving none, which would you choose?

– Okay, okay…. hear me out!  This is the SMARTEST and BEST way to get the best of BOTH worlds.  Buy 100 gifts for others… gifts you know they DO NOT like, but you like yourself. Give the gifts to them and when they say they really don’t like it, or can’t use it, simply act all disappointed and assure them that there’s no harm done if they give you the gift back. VOILA! Now YOU have the gifts.  You gave AND you received! (pops collar) 😎

Please know that I am only playing about this. Don’t follow this advice guys. It’s just awful. Hahaha! 😂

I’m really a huge giver. It’s really hard for me to receive anything, because I’m always doing the giving.

image

As some of you may know by now, I’m a bit of a rebel.  I don’t always follow the rules, so with that said… 😈

I’m nominating anyone who wants to participate and have a little fun!  I actually enjoyed the questions that were given to me, so I will ask you guys the same exact questions.  Thank you again, Magalie and Lisa, for this amazing opportunity!  I really had fun answering your questions.  Until next time, my loves…

Peace out! ✌️

The Sunshine Blogger Award – 2nd Nomination

sunshine-blogger-award-1024x679-1024x585

Hey, guys! 👋

I am so humbled to have been nominated for The Sunshine Blogger Award! The lovely Innervoice28 was kind enough to think of me as a nominee and I am so very thankful to her for this extreme honor.  My deepest thanks to you, my dear friend, for thinking so much of me and what I do here on Couch Talks.  Your kindness and support is deeply appreciated.

Innervoice28  is a beautiful and inspiring blogger with a gift for touching the soul with her words.  I encourage all of you to check out her amazing blog, when you get the chance. 😊

The Rules:

  • Thank the blogger(s) that nominated you and provide a link to their blog
  • Answer the 11 questions set by the person that nominated you
  • Nominate 5-11 bloggers to receive this award and ask them 11 new questions
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post

Innervoice28’s Questions

1.  Top three books on your list?

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy

2.  Choose any one (Fire & Water) and state the reason behind choosing it.

I’m a fire sign, so I’ll have to say fire.  I guess my reason would be that fire is an element of nature that can either provide warmth to a soul, or burn one badly.  It also makes me think of passion and a light that can either signify danger, or be a signal of hope. Fire reminds me that I can be passionate and warm towards others with my actions and words, or I can passionately burn them.  I can live my life in a way that makes people think I’m dangerous, or I can be a light of hope for others.  I choose how to use my fire.

3.  Define emotions?

That which makes us human and reminds us that we are alive.

4.  Mention your three favorite bloggers on WordPress?

I have so many bloggers that I love.  I couldn’t possibly limit it down to three!

5.  What do you prefer – Fine dine or street food?

I don’t mind fine dining… but if I’m hungry and I get anything on my plate that looks like this and breaks my wallet, I’m going to McDonalds.
481994767

6.  How did you come up with your blog name?

I spent a lot of time sitting with my parents on their living room sofa talking about life with them.  During those moments, they gave me so much advice and shared their wisdom with me about life.   When I became an adult, my parents and I would sit on that very same couch and drink some coffee after dinner and talk about everything, from back in the day stories to lessons we’ve learned in life.  So, I wanted this blog to be like that couch that I sit on in my parents’ living room.  A place where people can come to get advice, get encouraged and uplifted and just talk about life.  Thus… Couch Talks, Wisdom & A Cup of Joe was born.

7.  Favorite music genre?

I love ALL kinds of music…. but my favorite is EDM.  I love to dance!

8.  What is the impact of social media in today’s world?

I think social media is a great way to share our thoughts and connect with likeminded individuals from around the world, but I feel like we’re losing our ability to connect with each other in the real world.  Like that human connection is dwindling and we’re forgetting how to socialize beyond a screen.  It’s a blessing on one hand, but a curse on the other.

9.  Any experience of your life that changed you in a positive way?

I’ve had 3 near death experiences and live with a permanent ileostomy.  It’s definitely opened my eyes to how precious life is and that we should never take anything for granted.  In the blink of an eye, we could lose it all.  So, I try to live everyday making sure I tell my loved ones that I love them and show them that love.  I try to be a light to others and I try to leave a positive mark on this planet before my ticker runs out.

10.  Share a “quote of the day”.

“The ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones who do.”  – Steve Jobs

My Nominees:

Anja – Confessions of a Curvy Scorpio

Lisa – All About Life

Rohit – Straight From Heart

Gina – Singledust

Bill – WCS Poetry

Please know that there is no pressure to participate in this award.

Since I love the questions that were given to me, I will use the same questions for the nominees.

Much love guys!!!

The Anti-Social Social Club Tag

anti social social club picture

What’s going on, my lovely people?

Recently, I was tagged by a beautiful, young lady named Mary to participate in The Anti-Social Social Club Tag, created by Untitled366.  Mary is just an awesome and sweet blogger and you can find her at her blog OMG RYRY.  If you guys get a chance, please swing by her blog and show her some love. 😊

Thank you so much, Mary, for including me in this tag!

The Rules:

  • Answer all the questions
  • Attach the picture below somewhere on your post
    anti-social-social-club
  • Tag the original creator (Untitled366) and 4 or more bloggers of your choice to participate in this tag
  • Use the tag ‘Anti-Social Social Club Tag’
  • Complete this tag to become part of The Anti-Social Social Club!

The Questions

1. When was the last time you felt flustered at a till when paying for something?

I always get nervous at a cash register whenever I’m buying personal products, especially when the person ringing you up is attractive.  It’s just super weird trying to act all cool, while they’re scanning your underwear.

2. Have you ever had to get your friend or someone to speak for you?

Oh yes… I used to do this all the time, when I was younger.  I would ask my parents to do the talking for me on important calls, because I was just too nervous to do it.  Now, I’m a pro. (popping my collar) 😎

3. Have you ever had to speak/perform in front of a big audience?

Yes, many times.  Performing in front of an audience of any size is part of the life of being a musician and a music major in college.  It’s one of those fields in the arts where, if you’re nervous, you just have to suck it up.

4. On a scale of 1-10, how nerve-wracking is the idea of entering a packed room late to you?

Oh… definitely a 10!  It’s something awkward about the way people look at you when you come in a room late… like you committed a crime, or something.

5. What was the last family/social event you went to and how awkward was it?

Umm… that would have to be my aunt and late uncle’s wedding anniversary party.  Trying to socialize with people who aren’t all that sociable is an awkward experience, especially when they don’t embrace you to begin with.

I Tag…

Untitled366

Michele – Michele’s Blog

Zeina – Writing With An Open Heart

Ragazza – A Writer With No Name

Sky – Silent Silvery Tears

Tiffany – Beutiflee

And, as always, I welcome the rest of my amazing blog family to participate in this tag and have some fun!

Much love to you all!

Freedom of Expression Tag – “Weed: Unwanted Plants”

WEEDITIVITY picture

WEED-ITIVITY

You humans always say
spread positivity.
Well, humans, I’m a weed
and I will spread, indeed,
that weed-itivity.
Across your yard.
Around your home.
You cut us down,
but we will rise!
Don’t look surprised
when we pop up!
That’s weed-itivity!

542315406-612x612

You call us ugly plants.
But, humans, we have rights!
Remove thy hand
from that crab grass!
Or these ragweeds
will kick your ass!
They know about your allergies
and do not care if you do sneeze.
That’s weed-itivity!

542315406-612x612

We’ll choke your plants,
your bushes, too!
This is our land!
We’re watching you.
Old Creeping Charlie’s in the shade
and Dandelion’s on alert.
We’re taking over all this dirt!
That’s weed-itivity!

542315406-612x612

So bring your measly weed and feed
to kill our great community!
Cut up that clover
with your mower.
We will come back
faster, stronger!
Winter may kill us,
but we will rise, again!
‘Cause that’s WEED-ITIVITY!!!

Freedom of Expression Tag – “Friendship”

screenshot_2018-07-13-19-39-51-11756230614

Hey, guys! 👋

This post is in response to the ‘Freedom of Expression Tag‘.  My amazing friend Zeina G. of the blog Writing With An Open Heart nominated me to participate in this tag.  Please check out Zeina’s beautiful and heartfelt writing when you get a chance.

Thank you so much for the nomination, Z! I really appreciate this! 😁

TURNING TOXIC

Turning Toxic Background

Manessah B.

Couch Talks, Wisdom & A Cup of Joe

The topic that I was given for this tag was “friendship“.  If you look closely at the background of this poem, you may see that I created a visual representation of the decline of a great friendship — the clasped hands at the top represent a strong bond and the beginning of a great union, the hands slipping away from each other in the middle represent two friends beginning to grow distant, and the two fighting fists at the bottom represent the end of a great friendship and the birth of new enemies.  The gradient effect from white to gray to black signifies the happy times slowly fading into sad times.

The poem I wrote is an actual story that took place in my life. Unfortunately, this poem is a true story for so many people.  Sometimes our friends turn toxic and no matter how hard we try to make the friendship work, their negativity will always weaken the bond.  Therefore, it’s best to just cut the negativity out of your life, be thankful for the good times you did share with your friend and realize that it’s time to move on.

My Nominees:

  1. Jaya – Bonne Fille
  2. MP – A Journey Called Life
  3. Efi – EfiSoul63

I would also love if those of you reading this post would participate in this amazing tag, as well.  This is a great opportunity to express yourself and spread some positivity.

The topic I have chosen for you guys is “Equality“. Let’s do this!

The Rules:

  1. Thank the Selector and do not forget to tag/create a “ping-back!”

  2. Attach the tag photo.

  3. Post about that topic (in whichever way you want – it could be a photo or a quote or a poem or an article) for the dedicated “Topic of the Day.” No rush!

  4. Select 3 bloggers to take part in “FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION” Tag! Let’s spread some positivism around.

Hey, guys!!! 👋

Some days ago, I was nominated by the lovely Miss Zeina G. to participate in the Get To Know Me Tag.  Today, I had a chance to sit down and answer the questions.  Thank you so much, Zeina, for the kind nomination!  You guys can check out Zeina’s amazing poetry and stories on her blog Writing With An Open Heart.

Now… on to the questions!

The Questions

1. What does your name mean?

– Well, Manessah B. is my pen name, but the “B” is actually the beginning of my real first name.  My real name’s meaning is beverage (it’s the name of a fine wine) and, according to Google, it is also the Italian surname form of a word that means fiery beacon.  So, if you guys can guess what my real name is, then I’ll give you a shiny, gold star! 😉

2. Are you scared of height?

– Only if I look down… lol

3. What is your best physical feature?

–  … Um… Uh… (scratches my head) …

4. What is your favorite music genre?

EDM

5. Are you a good cook?

Oh, yeah. I’m GOOD! Maybe not Iron Chef/Chopped good… but I’m good. Lol

6. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Cookies and Cream

7. Do you have allergies?

Is the sun hot? haha 😄

8. What is your favorite festival?

Christmas!

9. Which of your parents do you look like?

My dad ☺️

10. Who is your favorite musician?

I don’t have a favorite musician. If the music moves me, then consider it added to my music playlist.

So I’m actually going to nominate whoever is reading this post to participate in this tag.  Tell your readers a bit about who you are!  I’m sure some of them would love to read your answers to these questions. 😁

Much love, guys!

The Mystery Blogger Award – 2nd Nomination

Unknown

I am very honored and extremely humbled to be nominated for The Mystery Blogger Award, again!  A very amazing and talented blogger, by the name of Bill, was kind enough to include my blog in his list of nominees. So, before I go any further, I just want to say thank you, Bill, for this amazing honor and for seeing something special in my blog.  This truly means so much to me.
You guys can check out Bill’s stunning poetry on his blog WCS Poetry.  I promise that you will not be disappointed. 🙂

The Rules:

  • Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  • Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well.
  • Answer the questions from the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate other bloggers.
  • Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice.
  • Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog.

Bill’s Questions For Me & My Answers

1.  If not writing, what would be your next favorite thing to do?

– When I’m not writing, I’m more than likely creating and mixing music in my home recording studio.  Music has always been my first love, though writing plays a huge part in it.

2.  If you could travel to any destination tomorrow, where would that be?

– I’ve always wanted to go to Italy, or France, and take in the beauty of the countryside.

3.  How did you come to write in the style you currently post?

– My style is really a blend of different styles I’ve played around with over the years. I have this fear of my writing becoming stale, so I always try to switch things up and challenge myself to do something out of the ordinary when I feel I need a change.  I guess you can say my goal is to have an eclectic writing style.  I never want to limit myself to just one.

4.  If given the chance to influence a world event, what would that be?

– I would rather have the chance to positively influence the people in this world, because showing goodness to others can inspire and create a movement and that movement can create change in the world, which could influence the events that take place in it (the classic domino effect)… at least that’s what I would like to believe. 😊

5.  When you read another’s writing, and assess it to be impactful, what is it about that work that causes you to feel that way?

– I believe that when one writes from a deep place within, the words can be felt because it’s raw and authentic.  A bit of your soul emanates through each space, each word, each line, etc.  So, if I deem something to be impactful, it’s because I sense a genuineness in it.   The writer’s emotions and spirit just seem to bleed through every word and make me feel what they are feeling, even if I’ve never personally experienced the story they are telling the reader.

My Nominees

The following bloggers below are all so inspiring and seem to have the most beautiful spirits.  Their posts are uplifting and something I look forward to reading whenever I see them on my reader.  These are my nominees for The Mystery Blogger Award:

  1. Kelsey + Life
  2. Michèle’s Blog
  3. Writing With Probability

My Questions For The Nominees

  1. What motivated you to start blogging?

  2. What kind of blogs draw your attention (i.e. poetry blogs, blogs that post inspirational quotes, blogs on cooking, etc.)?

  3. If you were a super villain, what would your name be and what would be your super power?

  4. If you could travel back in time and give your younger self some advice, what would it be?

  5. What is your favorite thing about blogging?

Thank you so much, again, for this amazing honor, Bill!  And thank you to all of the bloggers out there in blog world for all that you contribute to my life and this blog.  You guys motivate me in so many ways and keep me going, and I will always be so appreciative for that. 🙏🙂

The Sunshine Blogger Award

sunshine-blogger-award

I am so, so thankful to all of you for the love and support you continue to show me day in and day out on my blog.  Each day I come on here, this place feels a little bit more like my second home and you guys are like my family — my people.  So, thank you guys for being the amazing individuals that you are.  Thank you, Jaya, for nominating me for The Sunshine Blogger Award.  This is truly humbling and such an honor for me and there will never be enough words to express my gratitude for this.
Miss Jaya didn’t give me any specific questions for this award.  She simply requested that the nominees share 10 random things about themselves with the readers.  I’m really not one to talk about myself, unless you ask me something specific.  To be truthful, I don’t really think I’m all that interesting, but I will do my best to share some random things about myself with you guys. Here goes nothing! 😬

10 Random Things About Myself

1.  I never crawled as a baby.  I just pulled myself up on a couch and started walking.

2.  My favorite food is Italian food.  Pasta and cheese are my weakness (drooling like Homer Simpson right now).

3.  I was a Music Major in college.  My primary instrument was voice and my secondary instrument was piano.  I was classically trained, but I perform many styles of music.

4.  I love belly dancing.

5.  Storm was my favorite X-Men character when I was coming up and she still is.  I’ve always had a fascination with lightning and storms, so seeing that she could control these elements of nature was always super cool to me.

6.  When I was in school, Science and Art were my favorite subjects.

7.  I love the outdoors, but I can’t stand the bugs that come with it.  If it stings, jumps and flies, I’m running like hell.

8.  Speaking of bugs, I feel so violated when I see a bug floating around in my drink. Seriously, I cringe at the thought that I could have swallowed it and can’t help but feel insulted that it’s just lounging out in my drink. (Do not tell me that it’s just extra protein! 😑)

9.  I’m a big video game girl and I’ve been that way ever since I was little.  My older brother and I would play a lot of the Super Mario games and fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter back in the day on the Nintendo NES. As I got older, I became addicted to all of The Sims games, especially the PC versions.

10.  Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons.  I absolutely love cold weather because I love snuggling up under a big warm blanket and sipping something hot.  Plus, I think it’s the most romantic kind of weather. 😍

My Questions For The Nominees

  1. What was your biggest dream when you were a kid?
  2. If you had a fire breathing dragon for a pet, what would you train it to do?
  3. What’s your favorite food?
  4. Are you easily embarrassed?
  5. What Marvel superhero would you want to date and why?
  6. What is a trait about yourself that you love?
  7. Are you quiet natured or a social butterfly?
  8. What’s your favorite childhood memory?
  9. If you could travel to space, what would be the first thing you would want to do?
  10. What is something you would do, if you felt no one was looking?

My Nominees:

  1. Myth – Epistles, Thoughts and Concerns
  2. Zeina – Writing With An Open Heart
  3. Fauxcroft
  4. RD Delly – The Write Spot For You
  5. Jeanette – My Life With PTSD & Bipolar 2

These are just a few of my favorite inspirational blogs that I truly enjoy reading.  I find myself gravitating to their posts whenever I need to be uplifted.  If you guys get a chance, please check these amazing bloggers out. 🙂

Much love guys!

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Today is the last day of the Lyrical Challenge and I want to give a huge thank you to the beautiful Miss Jaya Singh for tagging me to participate in this challenge.  It has been pretty cool rummaging through my collection of music to find song lyrics for this challenge! 😄

Here are the lyrics:

“TITANIUM” – David Guetta feat. Sia

You shout it out,
But I can’t hear a word you say
I’m talking loud, not saying much
I’m criticized but all your bullets ricochet
Shoot me down, but I get up

I’m bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium

Cut me down
But it’s you who’ll have further to fall
Ghost town and haunted love
Raise your voice, sticks and stones may break my bones
I’m talking loud not saying much

I’m bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
I am titanium
I am titanium

Stone-heart, machine gun
Firing at the ones who run
Stone heart loves bulletproof glass

You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down but I won’t fall
I am titanium
I am titanium

A song for those who are being bullied, or who have been down that road, like myself.  You’re much stronger than you realize. 😉

I encourage you guys to take part in this challenge and share your favorite lyrics.  I hope all of you have an awesome Thursday!  Stay cool!
